You've just received your G1 Pro. This guide will take you from unboxing to your first measurement in under 5 minutes and answers our customers' most frequently asked questions.

What's in the Box

  • G1 Pro Glucose Meter
  • VitaeChek automatic lancing device
  • 25 sterile lancets (30G)
  • 10 test strips
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Travel case
  • Italian manual
  • 2-year warranty card

First Setup: 3 Steps

  1. Charge the device: connect the USB-C cable and wait for the charging indicator on the display to turn off (approximately 90 minutes from full discharge)
  2. Set date and time: press and hold the side button for 3 seconds → the display enters settings mode → use the + and − buttons to set the year, month, day, hour, and minutes
  3. Download the VitaeChek app: search for "VitaeChek" on the App Store or Google Play → create your profile (name, age, gender, type of diabetes if applicable) → Bluetooth automatically connects upon first opening with the G1 Pro turned on

First Measurement: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Prepare your hands

Wash your hands with warm (not cold — cold reduces circulation) water and mild soap. Dry them completely with a clean cloth. Do not use alcohol wipes: alcohol residue can falsely lower the result by 10–15%.

Step 2: Insert the strip

Remove a strip from the vial and immediately close it (humidity degrades the strips). Insert the strip into the slot on the right side of the G1 Pro with the silver-coated side facing up. The display will automatically turn on, showing the blood drop icon.

Step 3: Prepare the lancing device

Open the lancing device by twisting the cap to the left. Insert a lancet into the lancet holder until you hear a click. Replace the cap. Adjust the depth on the side collar: start at level 3 (medium depth). If the blood drop is insufficient, increase to 4 or 5. If the lancing device is more painful than necessary, decrease to 2.

Step 4: The puncture

Press the lancing device against the side of your fingertip (not the tip — it has more nerve endings and hurts more). Press the release button. Wait 2–3 seconds for the blood drop to form. Do not squeeze — pressure brings interstitial fluid, which dilutes the sample and lowers the result.

Tip: gently massage your finger from the base upwards before puncturing — it improves microcirculation.

Step 5: Read the result

Bring the blood drop to the front edge of the strip — the G1 Pro automatically draws the sample by capillary action. Do not touch the center of the strip. After exactly 5 seconds, the display shows the value in mg/dL. The glucose meter beeps, and the value is automatically saved with the date and time, syncing to the app via Bluetooth (if the phone is nearby).

Step 6: Remove the used strip

Press the ejection button on the side of the G1 Pro — the used strip is automatically ejected without you having to touch it. Dispose of it in a special waste container (strips contain biological residues).

The VitaeChek App: How to Use It

Main screen

  • The most recent value is in the center, with color coding (green = target, yellow = caution, red = out of range)
  • The graph at the bottom shows the trend over the last 7 days
  • The banner at the top shows the average glucose over the last 14 days

How to label measurements

For each measurement, you can add a label: FASTING / PRE-MEAL / POST-MEAL (1h) / POST-MEAL (2h) / BEFORE EXERCISE / AFTER EXERCISE / BEDTIME. Labels allow the app to calculate separate averages for each time of day.

Generate a report for your doctor

Go to "Settings" → "Report" → select the period (7/14/30/90 days) → "Export PDF". The PDF includes: daily glucose curve, average by time slot, number of out-of-target values, weekly trend. Share it via email directly from the app.

Quick Reference Values

Time Normal Pre-diabetes Diabetes
Fasting (morning) 70–99 mg/dL 100–125 mg/dL ≥ 126 mg/dL
2h after meals < 140 mg/dL 140–199 mg/dL ≥ 200 mg/dL
For diabetics on therapy (target) 80–130 (fasting) < 180 (postprandial)

Frequently Asked Questions

My glucose meter shows "E1" or "E3" — what does that mean?

E1 = strip error (strip inserted incorrectly or damaged). E3 = insufficient sample (blood drop too small). Both require repeating the measurement with a new strip.

The G1 Pro values are different from lab tests — why?

This is normal. The G1 Pro measures glucose in capillary blood (fingertip); the lab measures in venous blood. The physiological difference is about 5–10%. Modern glucose meters are calibrated to "venous plasma" to facilitate comparison, but small differences remain normal.

How often should I replace the strips?

Strips have an expiration date printed on the vial. Once the vial is opened, strips are usable for 3 months — even if the expiration date is further away. Always mark the opening date on the vial with a marker.

Bluetooth isn't connecting to the app — what should I do?

Ensure the G1 Pro is turned on and your phone's Bluetooth is active. If it doesn't connect, open the app, go to "Devices" → "Connect G1 Pro" → press the G1 Pro's side button for 2 seconds to activate pairing mode.

Can I use strips from another brand?

No — G1 Pro strips are specifically calibrated for the G1 Pro. Using strips from other brands can lead to inaccurate results and is not covered by the warranty.

Is the G1 Pro covered by a warranty?

Yes — 2-year Italian warranty from the time of purchase. For assistance: send an email to supporto@vitaechek.it with your order number and a description of the problem.
